It's no secret that the pianist sensation partook in some less than favourable substances in his heyday, but looking back, Elton John admits he wouldn't partake if were given a second chance.

Elton John admits the drugs didn't help his career

The "Rocket Man" singer admitted that if he hadn't gotten the help he deserved when he was at his worse, he'd "probably be dead". The 74-year-old also admitted that his best creative works didn't happen while under the influence.

"Although I continued to work when I took drugs, I didn't make my best work some of the time," he said. "I never really wanted to take drugs, I just joined in for the sake of it and it became an addiction."

This year marks the 30th year of his sobriety, and Elton John is proud of himself. On his Instagram, he wrote, "I'm truly a blessed man. If I hadn't finally taken the big step of asking for help 30 years ago."
