Many will remember that Hollywood super-star Barbra Streisand had another marriage before her beautiful blended family with James Brolin. Streisand was married to fellow theater actor Elliott Gould for a stint in the '60s. But what happened? Why did their marriage end? Elliott himself opens up about exactly that.

Elliott Gould and Barbra Streisand's Marriage

82-year-old Elliott Gould just had a beautifully reflective interview with CBS Sunday Morning where he explained his time with Barbra Streisand. The two met when Barbra was 19 and auditioning for a play that Elliott was the lead in. Elliot was suave and explained, "So after the last audition, they say, 'Thank you.' She then was very flummoxed as to being right there and not knowing what was going to happen next, and so she announced her phone number and said, 'So would somebody call me.' I remembered her number and I called her. And [then] we got married and we had a son and we had a great life."

The two married in 1963 and had their gorgeous son Jason together. Unfortunately, the seemingly perfect couple divorced in 1971. He told the morning show, "Well Barbra asked me at one point, because she's still writing her book, she said, why did we grow apart?" Gould had an easy response to that, "And I said my question would be, 'How could we have grown apart?' And the answer to that is that we didn't grow together and the reason for that was because she became more important than us."

Sweetly, Elliott explained that even though their marriage ended, the two fared pretty well considering how most divorces and custody cases go in Hollywood. "Then I also said to her, 'we did great. We made it very fast and nobody has what we have. There's you and me and our kid.'"

Both parties remarried, The Long Goodbye actor married Jennifer Bogart twice and Barbra married James Brolin in 1998. The two are a great example of blended families who co-parent well.
