As with anything, critics online do not hesitate to share their opinions no matter how hateful and destructive they might be. With Ellen DeGeneres bringing Kevin Hart on her show on Friday, she made it a point to show her support for him hosting the Oscars this year. Obviously, this did not bode well with critics online and some people in the LGBTQ community.
Ellen DeGeneres even gave The Academy a call to let them know her opinion on the matter and they agree that Kevin would be a great fit for the role of host and are still willing to have him on as host this year.
Ellen has received a certain level of backlash since having Kevin on the show, but she states in an Instagram post, "I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in @KevinHart4real."
As of right now, Kevin has not stated that he will commit to hosting the Oscars. He left The Ellen Show saying he was going to really think about their conversation and the impact that hosting the Oscars would have on him, his family, his peers, the Academy and society at large. According to Deadline, "The Academy will continue on its course towards a telecast without a single host, and instead will enlist some of the biggest names... to present awards." That is for now at least...
