Bravo's Real Housewives of New York hasn't always been known for its diversity. But finally, after 12 seasons of primarily all-white cast members, RHONY is welcoming Eboni K. Williams!
The reality series, which follows Manhattan's elite in their everyday lives, has been criticized before for not showing the true diversity that New York has to offer, and Williams shares how she feels about being the first Black cast member!
Eboni K Williams is set to be first Black cast member
Eboni K Williams is making history with her arrival on Real House Housewives of New York, after 13 years on the air. Previously featuring only white women, this time, thee show and Williams are shaking things up for good!
The title of being the first Black woman to appear on the franchise is something that Williams wears proudly, and she shared how excited she was to start filming!
"This franchise historically has not had a Black lens and now it will for the first time in 13 years," she said to Essence magazine. "I’m beyond. I’m thrilled. I’m honoured. It is my great hope that my presence on this show will just do it justice. Do Black women justice. Do our culture justice. I can only hope to touch on the magic that is Black women."
Williams, 37, is used to being on the small screen, having credentials working with Fox Sports, NBA 2K, and currently hosting Revolt Black News.

"I just turned 37 and I’m at a place in my life [where] I’m on the cusp of what does family look like for me?" she shared. "How do I define that? In COVID [times], if I’ve learned nothing else, I’ve learned that family is the single most important thing in the world, and it’s gonna be the most important thing in my world going forward. That’s new for me."
She continued to explain further, sharing that "Viewers are gonna get to ride that journey with me as I go back to see where family is for me and what it is for me historically, and I start moving forward to creating a family of my own."
"That’s gonna be exciting," she added. "It’s a little scary to kind of go there, but I know it’s necessary for me to become the full woman that I want to be."
She'll be joining the wild antics of Ramona Singer, Luan De Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, and Leah McSweeney.
While Williams didn't hide the fact she has previously watched the series, she's hoping to meet the women individually with an open mind.
A Learning Moment For Ramona
"One thing I take very seriously is meeting each one of these women in a real-life, authentic capacity–not bringing any preconceptions [based on] what I may or may not have seen on television before as a viewer or a fan," she said.
"These women are now a part of my real life and a part of my real world, and I welcome all that comes with that. All the ups, all the downs, and all the bumps along the way," she added. "You’re gonna see me forming very genuine and authentic relationships with each one of these women."
The casting comes after news that Dorinda Medley will not be asked back to join season 13.
