Dwayne Johnson is known for his career as an athlete and actor, but running for president of the United States just might be the next major career move for him! The Fast and Furious star opened up to People in a new interview, explaining why he's contemplating throwing his hat in the political ring in the future.
Johnson says he is aware people want to see him be president
Johnson made it clear that while he is "not a politician nor did I ever have political passions," he has become aware that many would love to see him in the White House! As People mentions, the results of a recent survey reveal that 46% of Americans who weighed in believe that Johnson should become president.
The actor shared he intends to "humbly and respectfully stand up, listen and learn," seriously considering the voice of the people. He also mentioned that any venture he pursues must "align with my personal beliefs." Back in February, Johnson also talked about the possibility of a presidential run, saying he would be open to campaigning "if that's what the people wanted."
Johnson opens up about discrimination and determination
Johnson also talked about how he is "indebted" to America for allowing him to succeed, reflecting on how his determination has paid off over the years. "I love our country to my core and I'm endlessly grateful for the opportunities I've had here," he said, "as a half-Black, half-Samoan kid being able to work my ass off knowing tenacity opens doors."
The star mentioned how he would "run into discrimination" while growing up in the South, which only motivated him to succeed. "I was born with this color and who I am and where I'm from," Johnson said, sharing that he seeks to "control the controllables, put in the work with my own two hands." Time will only tell if Johnson does run for president, but he has the makings of a great candidate!
