As People mentions, Barrymore and her ex-husband Will Kopelman have two children together. The Charlie's Angels star shared that parenting has become her primary focus, saying it was "a no brainer" for her to take a break from acting to be around for her kids— especially since her career started before she was even one year old!

Barrymore shares why Santa Clarita Diet "saved" her

As for why she accepted the role, she explained that she was "so knee deep into mothering" at the time, and needed to do something that showed she was also "an individual with a skill set."

She then went on to call the series "the greatest thing that could have ever happened" to her, because it came about at a time in her life when she was struggling. "And it was just perfect and it was comedy and it was delicious and it was fun and it was irreverent and I couldn't have loved it more," Barrymore explained. "And it really saved me."
