- Toronto is flooded
- Drake's home was too
- He shared an update online
In an Instagram post that quickly went viral, Drake shared a glimpse of his life under water – quite literally! As Toronto grappled with a historic downpour, Drake's mansion in the posh Bridle Path neighborhood wasn't spared.
"This better be Espresso Martini," Drake humorously captioned a video of brown water gushing into his home. But the situation was far from funny for many Torontonians.
A Record-Breaking Deluge
On July 16, 2024, Toronto witnessed more than just a bad weather day. With over 97 millimeters (about 3.82 inches) of rain pelting down in mere hours, the city's infrastructure was overwhelmed. Roads transformed into rivers, power lines faltered, and homes, including that of Drake's, faced the wrath of nature.
The day marked Toronto's fifth wettest day ever, shattering a rainfall record that had stood since 1941.
The aftermath was chaotic. Toronto Fire Services were stretched thin, responding to nearly 1,700 calls for help. Elevator rescues, stranded motorists, and flooded homes were the order of the day. At its peak, the storm left 167,000 homes without electricity. Even the city's landmarks weren't spared, with leaks at City Hall and a flooded pedestrian tunnel at Billy Bishop airport.
Toronto's ordeal is a stark reminder of the climate crisis knocking at our doors.
"We really, seriously, have to deal with climate change," urged Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, highlighting the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events. With aging infrastructure struggling to keep up, the city's vulnerability to flooding has been laid bare.

As Toronto picks up the pieces, the spotlight is on improving city infrastructure and bolstering defenses against future storms. As for Drake, the cleanup at "the Embassy" is likely underway.
But if there's a silver lining, it's the reminder that nature spares no one, not even the rich and famous. Perhaps, it's also a call for more action on climate change, a cause Drake himself could champion.
