Today, Donald Trump makes daily headlines as the 45th President of the United States. But the former reality TV star and businessman was involved in scandals and several tumultuous marriages long before his political days.
He's now married to Melania Trump (née Knauss), his wife of 15 years and the current First Lady of the United States. Melania, though, is Trump's third wife, following marriages to Ivana Zelnícková and Marla Maples.
Why Donald and Ivana Trump divorced: Enter Marla Maples
From 1977 to 1992, Trump was married to Czech model Ivana Trump (née Zelnícková). The two were a showy couple of the Hollywood elite during their time together. They are also the parents of Trump's three eldest children: Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric Trump. The marriage, however, did not last.
Trump's first marriage came to an end because, in 1989, he famously began an affair with actress Marla Maples. He had tried to invite her to Aspen on a family vacation, at which time the affair became known. Donald and Ivana finalized their divorce in 1992, and he married Maples soon after, in 1993. At the time, you'd have been hard-pressed not to come across headlines about the high-profile affair, divorce, and remarriage.
Donald Trump: Marla Maples marriage also ended in divorce
Trump and Maples's marriage similarly ended in divorce in 1999. They'd separated a few years earlier, after again being plagued by infidelity rumours on the part of Maples. The couple welcomed daughter Tiffany Trump in 1993.
Since 1998, Trump has been with Melania, and they wedded seven years later. The two have one child, 14-year-old son Barron. Will this be Trump's final marriage? Only time will tell...
