- Donald Trump is a former US president
- He had a famous cameo in the hit film 'Home Alone 2'
- THIS is how Trump landed the role according to him
In a recent uproar of he-said-she-said, Trump has taken to Truth Social to set the record straight about his iconic moment on the silver screen! It's all becoming a war of words in a bit of a blast from the past...
Trump says they wanted him
"Director Chris Columbus was practically on his knees, folks!" Trump exclaimed on his social media platform. He paints a picture of a time when the Plaza Hotel, his then-property, was the stage for cinematic history, and he, albeit "very busy," graciously accepted to grace the film with his presence. "I agreed, and the rest is history!" he declared.
Trump said of the 1992 film: "They rented the Plaza hotel in New York, which I owned at the time. I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent."
"I agreed, and the rest is history! That little cameo took off like a rocket and the movie was a big success, and still is, especially around Christmas time. People call me whenever it is aired."
The film's director, Chris Columbus, however, spun a different tale to Business Insider, suggesting Trump strong-armed his way into the movie. "He did bully his way into the movie," Columbus claimed.
"We paid the fee, but he also said 'the only way you can use the Plaza is if I'm in the movie'," Mr Columbus said. "So we agreed to put him in the movie."
But Trump was quick to retort, "Nothing could be further from the truth. If they felt bullied, or didn't want me, why did they put me in, and keep me there, for over 30 years?" Mr Trump added. "Because I was, and still am, great for the movie, that's why! Just another Hollywood guy from the past looking for a quick fix of Trump publicity for himself!"
Is Trump right on this one?
And he may have a point, as he is certainly media fodder whenever he comes up, and they do say that any publicity is good publicity. Trump's fleeting moment on the big screen continues to be a talking point in Hollywood. But once again, we have misinformation somewhere!
It's hard to tell where the truth is where the former politician, now running again for his second term. However, it's undeniable that Trump's cameo was one of the most memorable movie moments of the 1990s.
According to 'The Guardian', in 2019, some Trump supporters complained when his cameo was removed from a cut of the film screened on TV in Canada. At the time, Trump said he suspected this move was orchestrated by the very Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, amid a dispute between the two countries over trade tariffs.
A spokesperson for Canadian network CBC denied this, saying the film had been bought for broadcast by the network and edited in 2014, and Trump’s scene was one of several it omitted as they were "not integral to the plot". After all, Trump has one line and it's a bit of a refill.

Everywhere he goes, Trump seems to make trouble. So, perhaps that was last big cameo he will ever have. But the box office numbers don't lie.
'Home Alone 2' raked in a cool $359 million globally. And while it's a wild sleigh ride to quantify the impact of Trump's six-second glory, one thing's for sure – it's a cameo that keeps on giving, at least in terms of headlines...
