Bye, bye Mr. American guy! Don McLean up until now upheld the record for the longest single at the No. 1 spot, his iconic 1971 hit, "American Pie."

The song was the longest to hit the top 100, at 8 minutes, 42 seconds, but Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" kicked him out of first place at 10 minutes!

Taylor is a generous winner!

Taylor Swift is making history yet again with her "All Too Well" debut, which is 10 minutes long. The country-pop star revealed that she initially cut the song because she didn't think that it would get much praise being so long, but with her new release of Red, she decided to keep the original recording.

Taylor posted to her Twitter thanking fans for their love of the new release and shared how shocked she is to see such a long song reaching the top of the charts.

"I'm so proud of this song and the memories I have with you guys because of it," she wrote. "You truly chose this one and now you did THIS?! I'm floored. A 10-minute song is at the top of the Hot 100."

American Pie is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and Don McLean isn't being a sore loser.

The 76-year-old posted to his website last week how proud of the 31-year-old he is, and said that "there is something to be said for a great song that has staying power. American Pie remained on the top for 50 years and now Taylor Swift has unseated such a historic piece of artistry."

He continued, "Let's face it, nobody ever wants to lose that No. 1 spot, but if I had to lose it to somebody, I sure am glad it was another great singer/songwriter such as Taylor."

Additionally, McLean posted Friday a warm gift he received from Swift, complimenting her further.

"What a class act!" he wrote, noting that the Grammy winner sent him a lovely bouquet of flowers following her booting him out of the No. 1 spot.
