71-year-old Don Johnson is opening up about his children. He told Seth Meyers what rule he has for the five of them and what happened when Dakota didn't follow it.
Don Johnson Cut Off Dakota Johnson
Seth Meyers spoke to on-screen legend Don Johnson on Late Night with Seth Meyers where he shared a story about his daughter, Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson. Don has 5 kids in total with a few different women, Jesse (38), Dakota (31), Grace (21), Jasper (18), and Deacon (14).
Seth asked Don, "Does she come to you for [actinge] advice or is that something that happened decades ago?" Don answered, "That bus left. She doesn't need any advice from me!"
He told Seth, "We have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll. So, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll."
Independent Dakota had other plans! "Toward the end of high school, I went to her and I said, 'So, do you want to go visit some colleges?' Or something like that. And she was like, 'Oh, no. I'm not going to college.'"
Don was immediately skeptical considering his children had all been financially dependent. "I went, 'OK, you know what that means? You won't be on the payroll anymore. And how are you going to manage?' And she said, 'Don't you worry about it.' And I said, 'Oh okay, what have you got in mind?'"
She apparently sushed him and "Three weeks later she had nailed down that part in David Fincher's The Social Network and the rest is, shall we say: cinema history."
"So no, she doesn't really call me for advice. She calls me to say, 'Gosh, I would see you, but I've got three pictures that I'm shooting at the same time... But she's gainfully employed, and Seth! That's a great day!"
Dakota clearly inherited great acting talent from her parents Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith! And now she is dating Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin! Melanie told People, "They're an awesome couple."
