Catherine FitzGerald's (49) husband Dominic West (51) stirred up quite a bit of controversy when he was caught canoodling and kissing actress Lily James (32) while on vacation together in Rome. Now Catherine is speaking up.
Dominic West's Wife On Their Marriage
Catherine and Dominic portrayed a united front in the aftermath of the Daily Mail photo scandal, telling photographers in handwritten notes that "Our marriage is strong and we're very much still together." It was then reported that Catherine banned her husband from doing press with Lily James for their upcoming series together The Pursuit of Love.
It seems that Lily took the brunt of the heat by the public and when she was asked by The Guardian about the scandalous photos she said, "Ah, I'm not really willing to talk about that. There is a lot to say, but not now, I'm afraid."
Now Catherine FitzGerald is opening up about her marriage with The Wire star. She told The Irish Independent that she had an "instant attraction" with Dominic. "We had a wonderful love affair. We would look over Dublin, reading poetry to one another with the mountains in the distance. We had all the time in the world to explore the pubs and back streets and walk the canal."

"But at the end of the summer, I left him, and he has not let me forget it! But I couldn't have settled down with him right then forever. That would not have been a good idea for either of us." After splitting up, Dominic had his eldest daughter Martha with his ex-girlfriend and then he and Catherine reunited.
"He was having a year out and came back to London to be with his daughter, and a mutual friend brought him to meet me. We were both, then, at the right time in our lives. And it was lovely to have that shared history, from earlier days." The pair reconnected easily, had 4 children together, and went on to marry in 2010.
"There's something about having lived a full life before settling down – I felt I could throw myself into family life and having babies with gusto. And I really went for it, having four in seven years!" She was honest that their marriage: "had its ups and downs of course, like everybody, but we are totally devoted to each other and to our full, vibrant family life together."
Looks like we will have to wait to hear Lily's side of the story. Perhaps after The Pursuit of Love has aired, Lily will feel more comfortable explaining what really happened between her and her co-star Dominic West.
