Matt Smith in Doctor Who landed him multiple nominations and awards. Born on October 28th, 1982, Matt was raised in Northampton, England. Before his fame in English television, the actor was initially an aspiring soccer player, but suffered an injury that eventually led him into the field of acting. He graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2005 with a major in Drama and Creative Writing. 

Smith's first television breakthrough role was in BBC's Party Animals, and then the prominent, reprising role of the eleventh incarnated doctor in Doctor Who (2009). He also has appeared in films like Bert and Dickie (2012) and Lost River (2014).

After appearing in Doctor Who, Matt portrayed Prince Philip in the hit Netflix series The Crown, in which he was nominated for two SAG Awards and an Emmy Award.

After his many successful TV and film appearances, Smith has starred in a couple of biographical films, where he has portrayed serial killer Charles Manson in Charlie Says, as well as photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in 2018's Mapplethorpe. 

Recently, Smith starred in two films in 2020! Not only did he reunite with The Crown castmate Claire Foy for the movie Lungs, but he also reunited with Netflix for the horror movie His House. In 2021, Smith starred in The Forgiven and Last Night in Soho
