Dixie D'Amelio talks about her illness

Dixie D'Amelio describes her seven-year ordeal as follows:

"It really affects your moods and your behavior and many different parts of your life. I feel like I didn't realize how much it was affecting me until I got to this point I was in last week. But it really does affect my life, my attitude, my character, my relationships, and just me as a person."

Most recently, Dixie has been feeling particularly bad, she says:

"I had never felt so bad. And it was terrible not knowing what was wrong with me. It felt like I couldn't control my body or my psyche. I didn't know what it was, but it came and went like someone had flipped a light switch," says the 21-year-old.

Now that Dixie finally has a diagnosis, she feels more confident with herself. While there is no cure for PMDS, symptoms can be alleviated through medication or changes in one's lifestyle.
