For millions of comic book fans around the world there is no greater fictional hero than "Superman". The benevolent and all-powerful alien from the planet Krypton is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters of all time, with countless adaptations over the years.
In the latest edition of the character by DC Comics, Superman: Son of Kal-El, "Superman" is revealed to be bisexual by becoming involved with a male reporter named Jay Nakamura.

Although this isn't the original "Superman" but his son, "Jon Kent", that hasn't stopped the inevitable controversy. One of the few actors who have ever personified "Superman" on screen, Dean Cain, spoke out about the news. "They said it's a bold new direction...I say they're bandwagoning", Cain said as reported by CTV.
"If they had done this 20 years ago perhaps that would be bold or brave. But brave would be having him fight for gay people in Iran where they'll throw you off a building for the offense of being gay". Many agree with the actor's stance, but it remains to be seen whether this will spark a new era and a new generation of superheroes.
