David Caruso 'CSI'

David Caruso was born on Jan. 17, 1956, in Forest Hills Gardens, Queens, New York. He is the son of Joan, a librarian, and Charles Caruso, an editor. David's father left when he was 2 years old. He was raised Catholic and attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic School in Queens. He later entered Archbishop Molloy High School in nearby Briarwood, graduating in 1974.

In younger days, Caruso worked as an usher at a movie theatre, where he saw up to 80 films a week. With his co-workers, he said he re-created scenes from the movies, finding acting role models in stars like Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney.

Caruso is a father to daughter Greta, whom he had with his second wife, Rachel Ticotin. He also had two other children, Marquez Anthony and Paloma Raquel, with his ex-girlfriend Liza Marquez. In April 2009, Marquez filed documents against Caruso for fraud.

David Caruso's first film appearance was in the 1980 film Getting Wasted. For most of the next decade he worked in supporting roles, appearing in films such as First Blood, An Officer and a Gentleman and China Girl.

On TV, David Caruso had a recurring role on the series Hill Street Blues in the early 1980s. He then rose to fame with his portrayal of detective "John Kelly" on the TV series NYPD Blue, which earned him an Emmy nomination and a win of the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama Series.

Later, he decided to try his luck with a leading role on the big screen, in 1995's Kiss of Death. An adaptation of the classic film starring Richard Widmark and Victor Mature, Caruso co-starred with Nicolas Cage in the remake. In 2000, he appeared in the film Proof of Life and acted in Session 9 the year after.

In 2002, David Caruso began playing "Horatio Caine" in the new CSI franchise spin-off, CSI: Miami. He stood out for giving a modern and dynamic touch to the classic police chief-type, earning him millions of fans. After 232 episodes and 10 successful seasons, CBS decided to cancel the series on May 13, 2012.

Over the years, Caruso also got into trouble due to his personality, which in real life cost him with divorces and several visits to court. During his time on NYPD Blue, his peers suggested his behaviour created a toxic environment on set and called it "cancerous" for anyone who crossed his path.

Caruso's daughter Greta, the fruit of his relationship with Rachel Ticotin, has created the Good Eggs company, which dedicated itself to creating and teaching sustainable food systems around the world.

Without further announcements, Caruso decided to retire from acting on his 60th birthday to devote more time to his family. He's stayed true to his word, last appearing in CSI: Miami's 2012 finale.
