Dave Grohl isn't staying silent on how he feels in the debate of whether or not schools should reopen as usual this fall during the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
The Foo Fighters frontman is taking a step back from the music scene and getting political about the issue at hand and released a video discussing the current debate.
Dave Grohl is taking a stand for teachers everywhere
Dave Grohl is passionate about the current debate on what back to school season will look like this year. Not only is Grohl a father, but he has an inside look at what teachers will have to face this fall, given that his own mother was a teacher.
"As a single mother of two, she tirelessly devoted her life to the service of others, both at home and at work," Grohl stated, referencing his mom.
"From rising before dawn to ensure that my sister and I were bathed, dressed, and fed in time to catch the bus to grading papers well into the night, long after her dinner had gone cold, she rarely had a moment to herself," he continued.
As a result, Grohl has come to see and understand the mental load of a teacher, which many underestimate.
"There aren’t too many people who truly understand their unique challenges–challenges that go far beyond just pen and paper. Today, those challenges could mean life or death for some," he said.
He then continued to share what his thoughts are in regards to congress calling the shots.
"America’s teachers are caught in a trap, set by indecisive and conflicting sectors of failed leadership that have never been in their position and can’t possibly relate to the unique challenges they face," he said.
"I wouldn’t trust the U.S. secretary of percussion to tell me how to play 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' if they had never sat behind a drum set, so why should any teacher trust Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to tell them how to teach, without her ever having sat at the head of a class?" he concluded.
