- Dave Chappelle made a surprise appearance
- He showed up at the US Capitol
- Lauren Boebert and Anna Luna nabbed a selfie
The 'Chappelle's Show' icon left Representatives Lauren Boebert and Anna Paulina Luna starstruck, and boy, did they seize the selfie moment! It's not every day that one of the world's greatest living comedians shows up where you work. Chappelle looked like his casual self as the two politicians nabbed a selfie with him.
Starstruck selfie session
"Just three people who understand that there’s only two genders," Boebert quipped on social media, flaunting a photo with the comedy maestro. Luna echoed the excitement, tweeting her run-in with the legend and thanking him for his contributions. The Florida Republican couldn't hide her glee during the friendly encounter.
A source with direct knowledge tells TMZ Dave had no intent on getting political with the photo op, and it was a spontaneous moment. He's in D.C. for an Art is Activism event at Duke Ellington School of the Arts...which is, famously, Dave's high school.
TMZ says he also went to meet some friends who work on Capitol Hill, and ended up running into several members of Congress, including Lauren and Anna, who scrambled for pics.
Not to be left out, Rep. Byron Donalds joined the fanfare, engaging in a light-hearted banter with Chappelle. The comedy heavyweight, known for his razor-sharp wit, was reportedly in the Capitol for a sit-down with the Congressional Black Caucus, Punchbowl News spilled the beans.
The Washington, DC native gave a more personal reason for his Capitol cameo, revealing to a reporter, "A lot of the people I grew up with work on the hill, so I hang out here sometimes when I’m in DC, to catch up with old friends." Talk about a homecoming!
They weren't the only lucky ones
The standup comic also met with Stacey Plaskett while touching down at the Capitol. "Chapelle is interested in politics and his meeting with members delved into this interest along with a discussion of current events," a Plaskett spokesperson confirmed.
The comedian, who was criticized in 2021 for including transphobic material in his Netflix special, 'The Closer,' was also seen posing for photos with House members.
Chappelle, who was set to perform a stand-up show in DC, is no stranger to controversy. His candid humor, often targeting gay, lesbian, and transgender topics, has sparked backlash.
Also interesting:
The comic recently stirred the pot, slamming the US government for supporting Israel's actions against Palestinians during a Boston gig, leading some audience members to walk out in protest.
Whether you love him or loathe him, Dave Chappelle knows how to make an entrance and leave a lasting impression. His Capitol escapade is just another day in the life of a comedy king who plays by his own rules!
