- Dakota Johnson is now a successful actress
- However, her father wanted a different path for her
- She should have initially continued her school education
Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson (32) is the daughter of Miami Vice actor Don Johnson (72) and Hollywood star Melanie Griffith (64) – which made it hardly surprising that she was determined to follow in her parent's footsteps. But her father tried hard to persuade her to continue her education.
Dakota Johnson always wanted to be an actress
Dakota Johnson told The Mirror: "I was obsessed. I always wanted to be an actress. When my parents were on set, I wanted to be on set with them, I just loved movies. I was always watching movies. I still love watching movies and I'm so lucky I get to make movies. I didn't know any different. I thought this is just what my family does."

Dakota added that she insisted on pursuing an acting career in Hollywood, even if she had to go against her father's will. She explained: "My dad tried to make me go to college, but I refused, I wanted to act and that was that." She made her film debut in the 1999 film Crazy in Alabama.
She continued appearing in many successful films but in small roles, such as The Social Network, The Five-Year Engagement, and 21 Jump Street. These films came before her big breakthrough in 2015 as the leading actress in the erotic drama Fifty Shades of Grey. Though the film changed her life completely, Dakota recently admitted to having difficulties on set due to the franchise's writer, E. L. James, having too much creative control.
