The actress-turned-director, known for her roles in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and 'The Lost Daughter,' recently faced an unexpected hiccup while working on her new film, 'Loser Baby.'
- Dakota Johnson is debuting as a director
- Her film 'Loser Baby' had her on edge
- THIS is how she remedied it
Dakota, be careful!
“I discovered Celsius on day one of filming,” she said at 'Variety' magazine's Toronto Film Festival studio, sponsored by J. Crew and SharkNinja. “I didn’t know that it was like Red Bull. I thought it was a natural drink.”
At first, she attributed the energy surge to being in the zone. “I was like, ‘I’m so creative. I’m so inspired. I’m awake all night long. I’m not sleeping, because I’m just thinking…,’ Johnson recalled. “And it’s because I was having like two Celsius a day. I thought it was vitamins. I didn’t realize I was basically overdosing on caffeine.”
The caffeine catastrophe unfolded as Johnson, deeply immersed in the final stages of editing her film, apparently got a bit too cozy with her coffee maker.
Eyewitnesses reported that the director, fueled by a relentless drive and an unshakeable love for java, had consumed what can only be described as an ungodly amount of espresso. Reports suggest that Johnson might have mistaken her coffee cup for a life-support system, consuming enough caffeine to make a barista weep.
While Johnson’s passion for her craft is as strong as a triple shot of espresso, the incident has given her a new appreciation for moderation. "I guess I got a little too enthusiastic about my caffeine intake,” Johnson joked in a recent interview. “Who knew directing a film would involve so many late nights and so much coffee?”
Talia Bernstein, who wrote and stars in it had a similar epiphany. “We’re like, “We’re not sleeping, because of the adrenaline,'” she said. “And it was, like, thousands of milligrams of caffeine coursing through our bodies.”
It was the film’s costume designer who finally clued them in to the extreme caffeine content. “She was like, ‘You’re not well. You’re basically having, like, four Red Bulls a day,'” Johnson said. “It was really upsetting. But now I know that in dire straits… there’s Celsius.”
Despite the caffeine overload—an incident that left her somewhat jittery and wide-eyed—Johnson’s film is reportedly shaping up to be a critical hit. The film, which has been described as a blend of humor, drama, and sheer audacity, reflects Johnson’s unique directorial vision. Her caffeine-fueled frenzy has only added to the colorful narrative surrounding her directorial debut.
In a twist of irony, the experience has become a source of light-hearted amusement among her cast and crew. “We thought Dakota was just passionate about her work,” one crew member quipped, “but it turns out she’s also passionate about caffeinated beverages. We might need to install a ‘no coffee’ sign on set!”
Johnson’s ability to laugh off the situation and maintain her creative energy through it all speaks volumes about her resilience and dedication. As she continues to navigate the exciting world of filmmaking, it’s clear that her coffee adventures have only added a splash of humor to her burgeoning career.
