- Daddy Yankee is a Puerto Rican pop icon
- He is best know for his work in Latin reggaeton
- THIS is what he thinks about chasing his new found faith
In an electrifying revelation that has fans buzzing, Daddy Yankee, the Puerto Rican sensation who skyrocketed reggaeton into the global spotlight, has declared his retirement from the sizzling music scene to embrace a life of Christian faith!
At his ultimate performance in Puerto Rico’s José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, the star, born Ramón Rodríguez, bared his soul to the world.
Daddy Yankee wants to change!
"I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him," Yankee proclaimed, igniting the crowd with his heartfelt confession. The reggaeton legend spoke of a void in his life that fame couldn't fill, a search for purpose that led him to a divine calling.
"I tried finding a purpose, on many occasions, it seemed as if I was happy but something was missing for me to feel complete," he shared, stirring the hearts of many.
The final concert of his final tour, called "La Meta" (The Goal), brought a massive crowd of fans to a stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Daddy Yankee is from.
"Family: This day for me, is the most important day in my life.. tonight I recognize and am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Christ lives in me and that I will live for him. This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a brand new one," he announced in a post shared Monday on Instagram.
The post's caption accompanied a video clip of Daddy Yankee sharing his plans to dedicate himself to his religion with retirement. It went on to quote lines from the Bible:
"'For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, if he loses his life? Or how much can a man pay for his life? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father and with his angels, and then he will reward each one according to what he has done.'"
From his humble beginnings in Villa Kennedy to his near-miss with a baseball career cut short by a gunshot wound, Daddy Yankee turned to music and unleashed his debut album No Mercy in 1995.
By 2002, his rapid-fire rhymes and reggaeton beats were taking the world by storm, with hits like "Latigazo" breaking international barriers.
Who can forget 2004's "Gasolina"? A track that had everyone from London to Los Angeles chanting its infectious chorus, soaring to the top charts and cementing Yankee's status as the reggaeton sovereign.
Collaborations with stars like Snoop Dogg, will.i.am, and a pivotal rap in the global phenomenon "Despacito" only solidified his legendary status.

But now, Daddy Yankee is set to channel his superstar charisma into a higher purpose.
"I will use the tools that I have in my possession such as music, social networks, platforms, a microphone – everything that Jesus gave me – for his kingdom," he declared, ready to embark on a new spiritual journey.
Who knows where his music will lead him to now? Perhaps we can expect a Gospel album soon. But if he really is making a change for Christ, then perhaps his days of reggaeton and booty-popping are over. Let's wait and see if a more modest artist emerges from the ashes of the old.
As the reggaeton world waves goodbye to one of its pioneers, Daddy Yankee's legacy remains – a beat that forever changed the rhythm of the music industry and a voice now singing a different tune, one of faith and devotion.
