'Page Six' critic Nicholas Hautman referred to the album as "the revival that country music so desperately needed," "instantly timeless," and "a soulful celebration of Southern values and the genre's African roots."

A fan on social media said Queen Bey's voice was "the best it's ever been in her career." The album includes cameos by Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Linda Martell.
