- Justin Trudeau is Canada's Prime Minister
- He is splitting from his current wife of 18 years, Sophie Gregoire
- THIS is what Trudeau had to say about it on Instagram
After facing a dwindling popularity at home and more and more political enemies from all spectrums of Parliament, all thanks to controversial and doltish policies, both domestic and international, Justin Trudeau is not exactly having a good time these days! And now this...the split from his wife and partner of more than 18 years, Sophie Gregoire. In recent times, many Canadians have been scathing with Trudeau saying that perhaps the only redeemable quality about him was his choice of partner. But apparently trouble had been brewing at home for some time now! The PM himself had this to say about his split:
Trudeau's enemies will be using this as fodder
Justin Trudeau stated that after "many meaningful and difficult conversations" with Sophie, "we have made the decision to separate. As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build," he wrote. The PM wants to assure Canadians that nothing changes as far as his performance on the job is concerned. He also asked that their privacy be respected for the well-being of their children.
The PM's office said the pair have "have signed a legal separation agreement," in an official statement on Wednesday, after the news broke out. "They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward," it said.
Also interesting:
What a year it's been for Justin Trudeau. A failing economy, a dwindling housing market, social tension on Canadian streets, and a growing resentment for the current establishment has meant that Trudeau has never been more vulnerable. His split from Sophie will surely be used as ammunition by an ever-growing contingent of voices that want him out of office as soon as possible. In fact, the comments are bit of a mixed bag, with sarcasm like: "She’ll move back in when she realizes how expensive a house is," as one user commented.
His international image has taken quite a hit as well in recent years...so it remains to be seen how losing Sophie will affect him on the job! Canadians have their fingers crossed...
