Actor Christian Bale only recently learned of this story from American Psycho co-star Josh Lucas. The pair of actors reunited in Ford v Ferrari last year, when Lucas told Bale of the American Psycho cast's thoughts on his acting.
In an interview with MovieMaker, Bale said: "[Lucas] informed me that all of the other actors thought that I was the worst actor they’d ever seen."

Christian Bale: The Machinist and "Batman" star
With the high regard for Bale's performance as "Patrick Bateman" in American Psycho, this news of the cast's opinion comes as a surprise. Many rank his role in the film among his best work, which includes films like The Machinist, The Dark Knight, and American Hustle.
But here's the full story. According to Bale, Josh Lucas said that the cast members changed their minds once they saw the finished film.
Apparently Bale's eccentric and maniacal acting didn't translate well on set. The film is a dark, satirical horror film, so his performance must not have shone through until it was edited for the film.
