Chris Evans won't be suiting up as "Captain America" again any time soon— at least not according to him! As Entertainment Tonight reports, the actor has spoken out after rumours surfaced that he would be returning to play the iconic superhero, taking to social media to address the claims.

Evans tweets about "Captain America" rumours: "News to me"

Evans' return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was first suggested by Deadline on Thursday. The outlet claimed that he would return to play the role of "Steve Rogers", aka "Captain America", in at least one Marvel project in the future. But if there are indeed plans for the actor to reprise his character, it doesn't seem like Evans himself is aware!

"News to me," the actor wrote on Twitter later the same day, also including an emoji of a person shrugging. Although his response shows it's not likely that he'll be making another appearance as "Captain America", Evans has enjoyed seeing the online fan reaction to the "news" of his return! "Some of the gif responses are priceless," he tweeted, including emojis crying tears of laughter. "good work, everyone".

Evans previously expressed satisfaction with character's story

Evans first played the role of "Steve Rogers" in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, which served as "Captain America's" origin story. He continued on with the character until 2019's Avengers: Endgame, which saw him pass on the superhero's mantle to fellow Avenger "Sam Wilson" aka "Falcon", played by Anthony Mackie.

Because of how his last outing as "Captain America" ended, Evans doesn't see the need to jump back into the role— at least, not for the time being! "To stick the landing so well, it would be a shame to revisit," the actor told Entertainment Tonight back in November 2019.

However, Evans didn't completely close the door on the possibility! "Unless there was something very unique that we felt the need to reveal," he continued. "For now, it feels like, let's just be content with how well it ended." It looks like fans of "Captain America" will have to keep on hoping a new story will come about that will allow Evans to don the superhero suit and pick up the vibranium shield once again!
