  • Learn more about her career highlights below

Also known as "The Goddess of Pop" Cher has built an impressive professional career in the music industry. It all started in the mid-1960s when she was part of the folk-rock duo Sonny & Cher, alongside her then-husband, Sonny Bono; together they released the song "I Got You Babe" which reached number one on the American and British charts; by the end of 1967 the husband-wife duo had sold 40 million records worldwide.

However, the 76-year-old singer made her major breakthrough as a solo artist in 1966 and released "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", her first million-seller track. During the 1970's she released numerous successful songs like "Half-Breed" and "Dark Lady", and overall she has more than 20 studio albums, all of them highly acclaimed by audiences and music experts. In 1998 Cher released "Believe", which is probably her most famous song - a dance-pop track that became the biggest-selling single of all time by a female artist and which earned her a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. The track was particularly appealing because it features the music effect auto-tune, also known as "the Cher effect."
