Monica's heart is breaking
Head coach of Navarro College's cheer squad Monica Aldama is sharing how much her heart is hurting following the arrest of one of her star pupils, Jerry Harris.
Harris, who was arrested on federal charges this Thursday, is set to appear in court and could be facing up to 30 years in prison for allegedly soliciting sexual acts and photographs from underage boys.
A statement from the police read that Harris used social media apps to converse with boys as young as 13 and ask them to send nude pictures. Being widely known in the cheerleading world, Harris used his celebrity as a way to manipulate the boys into sending him pictures.
At a cheer competition, it was alleged that Harris approached a 13-year-old in the bathroom and solicited him for oral sex.
Aldama, who is also starring in the current season of Dancing With The Stars, issued a statement to her Instagram sharing how her heart is breaking over the shocking news.
"My heart is shattered into a million pieces. I am devastated by this shocking, unexpected news," Aldama wrote.
"Our children must be protected from abuse and exploitation, and I'm praying hard for the victims and everyone affected," she continued. "Please respect our privacy as our family mourns during this heartbreaking time."
Harris did admit to FBI agents that he indeed solicited about 10-15 boys, knowing that they were minors. But lawyers say Harris was also a minor at the time two plaintiffs accuse him of soliciting oral sex at a cheer competition.
The case is still ongoing.
