Charlize Theron Reveals Heartbreaking Talk With Daughters Following George Floyd's Murder

Charlize Theron is getting real about the realities of having Black daughters in the wake of the George Floyd murder. As the Black Lives Matter movement grips the nation, many mothers are forced to have heartbreaking conversations around racism, and Theron reveals how that conversation went for her family.

Over a month has passed since the George Floyd murder. The video that gripped countries around the world catapulted conversations around race and systemic injustices and proved a time for a modern Civil Rights movement.

Surrounding the political and social reform, many are opening up about their experiences talking to their family about the difficult conversation of race, and celeb moms are no different.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Charlize Theron opens up about what that conversation looked like in her family.

Theron, who is a mother to two Black daughters, opens up about the various struggles she faces with racism in America.

"The day I became a parent, I vowed that I would always tell them the truth in a way that they can handle," Theron said. "And I feel like this is such an important moment for them, for all of us."

"They have an awareness," she continued. "I think we forget how aware sometimes our kids are. And I wanted them to know what this was all about, what happened to George Floyd and to so many Black bodies that have died from this violence. I wanted them to have an awareness of how unfair and how unjust all of this is."

While Theron does recognize these discussions can make her children grow up faster than they maybe should, she also feels transparency is essential when it comes to issues surrounding race.

"They handled it really well. I think it was heartbreaking at first. They couldn’t understand that people would let something like that happen," she said.

Theron then proudly shared that her daughters wanted to be proactive, and even made signs to go out and protest.

"They’ve really grown from this and have become little warriors in their own right," she said.
