- Carter Country is an American sitcom that aired in the late 1970s
- The show dealt with many social issues of the time
- THESE cast members are still alive
Those were bleak times for a lot of folks, and the mood of the show reflected that reality. The show was set to the backdrop of the comic exploits of a redneck sheriff and his educated black deputy in a small Georgia town. 'Carter Country' helped to launch the careers of many actors in their day, and these cast members are still alive today.
'Carter Country' was a bit of a cult classic in its time
Kene Holliday played "Sergeant Curtis Baker" on the show. Holliday was an up-and-coming young actor fresh off a one-part appearance in 'Roots: The Next Generations' when fans saw him on 'Carter Country'. After the show perhaps his most famous role was in the show 'Matlock' where he played "Tyler Hudson". Off-screen problems, including substance abuse issues, eventually led to his dismissal from that show!
Also interesting:
Guich Koock played "Deputy Harley Puckett" a mostly goodhearted but wholly goofy underling who seemed to have a knack for bungling and misunderstanding. When the show ended he featured in shows like 'Lewis & Clark', and 'She’s the Sheriff'. His last screen credit came in 2012 with 'Trooper and the Legend of the Golden Key'.
Then we have Vernee Watson who played "Lucille Banks", and although she was very popular on the show, she is known to most fans from other productions, particularly 'Baby Talk' and 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' among others. These days you can catch her playing nurse "Stella Henry" in 'General Hospital'.
