While promoting her new book Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Dame Julie Andrews spilled a hilarious secret! She and Carol Burnett were spotted in a funny situation by the First Lady!

July Andrews and Carol Burnett Caught Kissing

During an interview with Kelly Clarkson, The Princess Diaries star Julie Andrews opened up about a hilarious incident she and Carol Burnett were found in. Julie and Carol were waiting for their friend to arrive via an elevator to an event they were attending in the '60s.

The Dame explained, "It was Lyndon Johnson's inaugural, so the hotel was pretty packed, but at that hour it was quite quiet. We decided to sit on a sofa in from of the elevators and wait for Mike."

Then the funny duo came up with a creative idea: "I swear I don't remember which one of us decided that we would do something silly when Mike got out of the elevator. So one of us said, 'Let's be kissing or something.'" And so they did! In a "big embrace" Carol and Julie heard the elevator arriving but instead of their friend Mike getting out, it was "simply packed with secret service men."

"Eventually, a lady got out. Carol swears it was Lady Bird Johnson! The lady went down the hall, realized it might be us and she came back!" The two were in such shock at the situation they didn't realize she was turning around to greet them!

"By this time Carol was laughing so hard that she went around the back of the sofa we were sitting on because we both had tears running down our faces at being so silly. And the lady came back and looked over at the back of the sofa and said, 'Excuse me, are you Carol Burnett?' Immediately Carol said, 'Yes, and this is my friend Mary Poppins.'"

The Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Grammy, AFI Award, and Emmy Award-winning performer Dame Julie Andrews opened up about countless of these hilarious behind the curtain scenes with her close pal Carol Burnett in her new memoir. Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years is out now!
