Camila Mendes proves she's a loyal friend

Camila Mendes is setting the record straight on where she stands when it comes to the allegations made against her fellow Riverdale co-stars. The actress is proving her loyalty, and sticking up for her friends.

The last two weeks have been a firestorm of alleged false allegations against co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse, as the two were accused of sexual misconduct. The apparently fabricated sexual assault allegations have been vehemently denied by both Reinhart and Sprouse.

In an interview with People, Mendes opens up about the drama and reveals that Reinhart and Sprouse are more than friends to her, as their time on the set of Riverdale has caused them to feel like family.

"These are my friends, they've become my family over the years," Mendes said.

"More than even being put in a situation where they're being accused of something that they never did, the fact that this person went out of their way to potentially destroy these people's careers, but also destroy the integrity of the #MeToo movement just to make a point about how easily people believe things, was so distasteful and destructive," she added.

Posted on her Instagram, the actress also wrote a statement of support saying, "It's incredibly destructive to falsely accuse people of sexual assault. Whatever point about how quickly people believe what they read, it was not worth damaging the integrity of the Me Too movement."

She continued, "It's sickening and doesn't prove anything except that there are twisted people in this world who have no concern for the consequences of their harmful actions."

As for season 5 of Riverdale, Mendes reveals she is hopeful that they can continue production after being forced to stop in March due to the novel Coronavirus.

"I think Vancouver is looking a lot better than other places, so I think they're opening up quicker," she said.

"Hopefully in the next few months, if everything's done properly. Fingers crossed," she added.
