Pamela Ferris was born May 11, 1948 in Hanover, Germany while her father was serving in the Royal Air Force. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Wales and began to pursue an acting career at a young age.

Some of her earliest roles were in the theater, both in the UK and in New Zealand, and she wouldn't make her screen debut until the 1990s. She would rise to fame with popular TV series including The Darling Buds of May (1991-1993) and Rosemary and Thyme (2003-2006).

Pam Ferris as "Sister Evangelina"

By the early 2000s Pam Ferris had made quite the name for herself in screen adaptations of costume dramas like Middlemarch and Jane Eyre. Pam had also stepped into film with popular movies Matilda (1996) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).

After a series of successful roles, there was no one better suited for the role of Call the Midwife's "Sister Evangelina" than Pam Ferris. "Sister Evangelina" was quickly everyone's favorite nun, humble and kind, and the most skilled midwife. On-screen and off, everyone was sad when Pam Ferris decided to leave the show in 2016.

Now 76-years-old, it seems Pam Ferris' decision to leave the show was the right one. The show was changing filming locations, and the journey was becoming too long and stressful for Pam to continue to make.

Also Interesting:

Leaving the show has allowed Pam to take on smaller roles, including a guest role on BBC Radio 3's Essential Classics. More importantly, though, she has been able to spend more time with her dogs and husband of 38 years, British actor Roger Frost who is best known for The Bourne Identity. While the couple has never had children, their marriage appears to be a happy one.

While you won't catch Pam Ferris on Call the Midwife anymore, fans of the show can still follow along with their favorite characters and catch up with the cast in live watchalongs available on Facebook!
