- Affleck's ongoing support for the shelter
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, both 52, embraced the Thanksgiving spirit by volunteering at The Midnight Mission's annual Thanksgiving Street Fair in Los Angeles. The former couple, who separated in 2015, were seen serving meals to the homeless alongside their children: Violet Anne, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 12. A source told 'PEOPLE', “They truly enjoy giving back to their community and cherishing quality time together as a family.” The event, held in Skid Row, is a significant occasion for the non-profit organization, which provides meals and live entertainment to thousands of people experiencing homelessness.
Affleck and Garner's community involvement
The Midnight Mission expressed gratitude for the couple's participation, captioning a photo on Instagram, "Today, we were honored to have Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner join us at The Midnight Mission for Thanksgiving! Their kindness, warmth, and dedication brought so much joy to our Skid Row community." The couple, donning matching white aprons, appeared in good spirits as they posed with the organization's CEO, David Prentice, and other volunteers like Sarah Paulson and Sasha Farber. This is not the first time Affleck has supported the mission; he has been involved with the organization for years, having learned about it through a parent at his children's school.
The Midnight Mission's impact
Established in 1914, The Midnight Mission serves those in need through programs focused on education, recovery, and workforce development. Affleck shared his thoughts on volunteering, saying, “I found that I get a lot out of giving a little bit of my time to other people. I don’t know that it helps them or not, but I know it’s helpful to me.” He emphasized the importance of contributing, even in small ways, to help individuals improve their lives. “There are people who want to make their lives better, who are struggling, who need help and who you can benefit by even doing a little bit,” he added.
Despite his busy schedule filming the upcoming movie RIP with Matt Damon, Affleck prioritized spending Thanksgiving with his children. This Thanksgiving marked his first since his wife Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce in August, after less than two years of marriage. A source noted, "He's very happy with life. He enjoys working. He'll spend Thanksgiving with his kids."
