Barry Keoghan's Battle with Online Trolls
In an interview on 'The Louis Theroux Podcast,' Keoghan expressed his frustration with the relentless criticism he faces from online commenters, particularly those who target his parenting. Keoghan, who has a 2-year-old son named Brando with his former partner, revealed the emotional toll these comments take on him.
"Of course it’s going to affect me being a father when I had no blueprint to take from. The more in the public I’ve become, the less I’ve posted about my child, because I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online, there’s sick people out there," he added.
"And because I’ve reined that in, people draw a narrative and go ‘absent father, sh*t deadbeat dad’ and more disgusting things that I wouldn’t even repeat. Just the audacity of some people, man, it sickens me and makes me furious."
He spoke in a similar vein about the trolls who comment on his appearance, "especially on TikTok… people can sit there and make videos and be like ‘I don’t like his face, he looks weird, or he looks evil’ and just pick you apart."
This decision, however, has led to unfounded assumptions about his role as a father. "And because I’ve reined that in, people draw a narrative and go ‘absent father, sh*t deadbeat dad,’" he lamented.
Keoghan also addressed the hurtful comments he receives about his appearance, particularly on platforms like TikTok. He described how people "can sit there and make videos and be like ‘I don’t like his face, he looks weird, or he looks evil’ and just pick you apart."
A Difficult Childhood and a Message of Hope
Keoghan's resilience in the face of adversity is rooted in his challenging childhood. Growing up in Dublin, Ireland, he spent time in various foster homes and lived with his grandmother due to his mother's heroin addiction. Tragically, he lost his mother at the age of 12 and his father at 15.
Despite these hardships, Keoghan is determined to use his story as a source of inspiration for others. "I feel it’s been publicized sort of in a pity story way," Keoghan said. "’Oh, God bless him. His mom passed away… touring foster homes…’ That’s not what I’m looking for.
If anything, I speak about it to let younger kids know that no matter where you come from, you can always achieve what you put your mind to and not to give up."
Keoghan's ambition extends beyond his acting career. He hopes to establish a youth club in his hometown, providing children with opportunities to explore activities like acting and boxing. His own entry into acting came serendipitously when he responded to a shop advertisement seeking "actors with no experience."
In addition to his professional achievements, Keoghan has garnered attention for his rumored relationship with singer Sabrina Carpenter.

Such a strong, independent lady who’s massively talented and yeah, very special."
