- Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are going through a messy divorce
- Turner had filed a "child abduction" charge against Jonas
- THIS is why that charge has been dropped
In a twist that's got Tinseltown talking, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have officially called off the custody dogs, folks! The once fiery "wrongful retention" claims that had fans on the edge of their seats have been dropped faster than a hot new single! Involving the courts was making things ugly.
Sophie and Joe are not seeing eye to eye
Courtroom Plot Twist! The legal eagles at 'People' magazine got their hands on some piping hot court docs that reveal a U.S. judge gave the green light to dismiss the claims after the celeb duo inked a consent plan across the pond. Last September, Turner threw down the legal gauntlet, accusing Jonas of keeping their daughters' passports under lock and key and blocking their British homecoming.
But hold on to your hats because the plot has thickened! Fast forward to now, and it's all water under the bridge. On January 11, a U.K. judge stamped approval on their parenting pact, and just like that, the drama dissipated. The ex-lovebirds have agreed to let bygones be bygones "with prejudice," and not a penny in legal fees will change hands.
Turner, a star on the television show “Game of Thrones,” sued Jonas, an American musician who plays in a boy band with his brothers, in September, weeks after the couple said publicly that they planned to divorce.
That summer, the children had traveled to the United States with Jonas because he was on tour there and Turner had a busy filming schedule in Britain, according to the lawsuit. The couple agreed that Turner would pick up the children in September and return with them to England, it said.
Instead, the lawsuit said, Jonas filed for divorce in September and later refused to give Turner the children’s passports, preventing them from returning to England, their "habitual residence." A representative for Jonas said at the time that giving Turner the children’s passports would have violated a court order in Florida — where the couple’s divorce proceedings had been initiated — that restricted both parents from relocating the children.
After living a “very peripatetic lifestyle” for a few years, Turner’s lawsuit said, they relocated to England in April 2023 and had planned to buy a home there later in the year.
Despite the initial custody shuffle, Jonas and Turner have been dancing to a more harmonious beat since last fall. They've been spotted keeping the peace in the Big Apple, with a temporary truce keeping their little ones in New York City's cozy confines.
This custody battle had turned less contentious within days, however, as Turner and Jonas reached a temporary agreement on Sept. 25 to keep their children in New York City. The former couple then settled on a temporary custody agreement on Oct. 10.
"After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK," the former couple told People in a statement at the time.

And if you thought it couldn't get any more heartwarming, the former flames are singing from the same hymn sheet now, promising to be "great co-parents." Their joint statement is like a warm hug, pledging equal time in loving homes on both sides of the pond.
Remember, folks, this is the same couple who slid into each other's DMs back in 2016 and sprinted down the aisle in 2019. Despite the marriage hitting the skids last September, it looks like they're set to deliver a co-parenting performance that's worthy of a standing ovation!
