Hathaway turned down a role in The Phantom of the Opera to continue filming for 'The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement'.

In 2005, Anne Hathaway took on a more serious role in the drama, 'Brokeback Mountain'. She starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger and played the wife of Gyllenhaal's character. The film received many award nominations, and this was the role that Hathaway finally broke out of her "cute" actress image. Hathaway lied about her knowledge of horseback riding so that she could be cast into the film.

Hathaway took a two-year break of acting before starring in the remake of 'Ocean's 8'. This 2018 action-comedy included an all-female lineup, including Sandra Bullock, Rihanna and Cate Blanchett. The plot of the movie is that the group of female criminals devise a plan to rob the Met Gala. It grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.

One of Anne Hathaway's recent films is the comedy, 'The Hustle' where she and Rebel Wilson hope to defraud an internet millionaire.
