Angelina Jolie has taken a break from the big screen to continue her philanthropic work, and on Wednesday the Hollywood heiress got real with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright about just what issues in society women deal with.
Jolie, a mother to six, dove right into what societal issues can hold the modern woman back and passionately expressed her goal of empowering women around the world to see their worth.
Angelina hopeful for a better future for women
The conversation, which was shared with the National Democratic Institute's Twitter, was uplifting for women everywhere. Albright mentioned just how important it is for women to be involved with politics, saying, "women that are able to make a political difference by running for office" and how "being part of the decision-making mechanism" can change the future.

"Women contribute so much, they are giving, are nurturing by nature, are community-building by nature, are strong, are intelligent, and yet what is it that's holding us back?" Jolie said.
"I think when you speak of value, that's something to really sit with. Why is it that so many women still don't know their own value?" she continued.

The actress then added, "What is it that's been done to us, whether it be the rapes and the lack of accountability for the rape, whether it be domestic violence, whether it be ... this question where we still, we still are saying, 'Please stop hurting me,' and 'Please hold someone to account if they hurt me.'"
This past month, Jolie has been very outspoken about issues surrounding the novel Coronavirus and has spoken to Harper's Bazaar UK about how it has changed her view on what help is needed in her own country.
"A system that protects me but might not protect my daughter – or any other man, woman or child in our country based on skin colour – is intolerable," she said to the magazine.

"We need to progress beyond sympathy and good intentions to laws and policies that actually address structural racism and impunity," she added.
The Oscar winner has donated $200,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund ahead of her birthday to help end racial injustices within the country.
