Garfield and Pugh's Unforgettable Scene
It's not every day that you hear about actors getting so lost in their roles that they forget the world around them. But that's exactly what happened to Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh on the set of their upcoming movie, 'We Live In Time.'
During a recent appearance at the 92nd Street Y, Garfield shared a steamy anecdote about filming a "very intimate, passionate sex scene" that went a bit longer than planned.
Imagine this: a closed set, the camera rolling, and two of Hollywood's hottest stars bringing their A-game to a love scene that's as real as it gets. According to Garfield, the duo was so into their performance that they completely missed the director, John Crowley, yelling "cut" from another room.
"We go a little further than we were meant to just because we never heard 'cut,'" Garfield recounted, adding a touch of humor to the tale.
According to footage posted to social media from the event, Garfield told the audience that this happened during the very first take of the love scene, which was filmed on a closed set with only himself, Pugh, the camera operator and the boom operator.
"The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it," Garfield said. "And we get into it, as it were, and we go a little further than we were meant to just because we never heard ‘cut.’" John Crowley, the director, was in a different room, next to where they were filming, Garfield said.
As time went on, "I feel like we were both kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘this definitely feels like a longer take,’" the actor recalled.
According to Garfield, the pair only realized their error when they looked over to the crew members and saw them both facing the wall, in an attempt at politeness.
What makes this story even more endearing is the crew's reaction. Garfield and Pugh only realized the scene had gone on too long when they noticed the camera operator and boom operator politely facing the wall, giving the actors their moment.
This anecdote not only highlights the professionalism on set but also the safe environment that allowed the actors to fully immerse themselves in their roles.
After all, it's these kinds of moments that get bums back in movie seats. Let's get our tickets ready!
