"I think it's especially important in these times of trouble to try and hold onto moments of joy and moments of happiness even as we mourn the loss of loved ones, we are also blessed with new life," Cooper started off by saying. Then, he revealed to his viewers that he himself had welcomed new life into the world!
"I just wanted to take a moment and share with you some joyful news of my own," Cooper said. "On Monday, I became a father. I’ve never actually said that before out loud and it still slightly astonishes me".

Cooper "never thought" fatherhood would be possible
Cooper then introduced viewers to his son, Wyatt Morgan. As he explained, the name has ties to both of his own parents. That's because "Wyatt" was his dad's first name, while "Morgan" was a family name on his mom's side... as well as on a list of potential names for Cooper himself!
"I hope I can be as good a dad as he was," Cooper said in reference to his father, who passed away when Cooper was only 10 years old. Then, he admitted he never imagined fatherhood as a possibility when he was younger. "As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child," he shared. "I am so grateful for all those who paved the way".
