After graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in acting, Meloni began looking for opportunities in Hollywood. In 1989, the actor got his first TV role in the series 1st & Ten, where he played "Vito del Greco" for 11 episodes. After that, Christopher Meloni appeared in series like The Fanelli Boys and Misery Loves Company.

In 1994, the actor made his big-screen debut with the film Clean State. However, his first major role wouldn't come until 1996 when he starred in the thriller Bound, directed by the Wachowski sisters. Years later, the star would land his most iconic role to date in the hit show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Playing the fan-favorite "Elliot Stabler".
