Alicia Keys was born on January 25th, 1981, in Hell's Kitchen, New York. She has had an incredible career in the music industry and continues to top the charts even today.
According to Keys she was frequently misinterpreted by the media and was called "a boy", "gay" and "hard" for having braids in her hair and wearing baggy jeans. She said this tough exterior that she portrayed acted like armor because after having lived in the streets of New York she felt uncomfortable feminizing herself as this would commonly attract unwanted attention from men.

By 2006 Keys had played in movies like The Nanny Diaries and Smokin' Aces. As she started to receive more fame and recognition for her achievements she began to become her own person and embrace her own style freely. She went from wearing braids to wearing her hair naturally. Her career high points included her performance of "Empire State of Mind" featuring Jay Z at the Academy Awards in 2009.

In 2016 Keys released her album HERE which has sadly not seen anywhere near the same success as any of her earlier albums. Her most recent albums, however, were released in 2020 and 2021 and titled Alicia and Keys respectively.
Nevertheless, Alicia had been keeping quite busy! She has become a judge on the hit talent show The Voice, performed in the opening ceremony of the 2016 UEFA Champions League Final, has become a children's author, and has also co-founded the Keep a Child Alive Charity.
In 2018, the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) honored Keys with the Songwriter Icon Award stating she was "an inspirational figure to millions". Although Keys is not as famous today as she once was, her impact on the music industry and beyond has left an extraordinary legacy that will be remembered.
