We already knew fans loved longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek. The television personality has been receiving lots of sweet messages in the past few months after he revealed he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. However, one particular fan took it to the next level and expressed his support during an episode of the legendary game show this Monday by delivering a surprise answer.
During his appearance on Jeopardy! contestant Dhruv Gaur wrote "We love you, Alex!" instead of choosing an answer to the "Final Jeopardy!" question of Monday night's "Tournament of Champions." Alex Trebek got emotional and close to tears right after reading the sweet answer, “That’s very kind, thank you,” he said before joking a little bit about it, "Cost you $1,995. You're left with five bucks. Okay," the television personality added.
Alex Trebek is reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer
Contestant Dhruv Gaur explained on Twitter that he decided to show Alex Trebek how much his fans love and support him, because he had just told them "that he was reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer."
The 79-year-old television host was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March, and since then he has been very open about his struggles with the disease. Alex Trebek underwent chemotherapy and returned to Jeopardy! in September 2019 for season 36 of the show. One week later he announced he had to return to chemotherapy once again after his "numbers went sky high." We love you, Alex! Get well soon!
