Unfortunately he couldn't hang on any longer. The star's battle with the illness was kept away from the public eye, but his legacy will forever illuminate the hearts of those who admired his work.
"Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever," a heartfelt public statement read, capturing the essence of the man who was more than just an actor to many.
A big spirit gone too soon
Adan Canto's role as "Arman Morales" in Fox's hit show 'The Cleaning Lady' won him accolades and love, but sadly, he couldn't continue into the third season due to his health.
Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment expressed their sorrow, "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of our families. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children, and loved ones."
Born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, Canto grew up in Del Rio, Texas, and pursued an early career in music. He wrote songs for several Mexican TV shows and films, and eventually landed on stage in an adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s 'All About My Mother.' His first TV role was on 'Estado de Gracia' in 2009.
And then his American acting debut came in the Fox crime thriller series 'The Following,' starring Kevin Bacon, in 2013. He went on to have roles in ABC’s sitcom 'Mixology,' Netflix’s crime drama 'Narcos,' 'Blood and Oil' and 'Second Chance.' His first major film role was playing the superhero Sunspot in Fox 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' in 2014.
In 2021, Canto starred in his 'X-Men' costar Halle Berry’s directorial debut “Bruised,” and appeared in the CIA thriller “Agent Game” in 2022 before starring in 'The Cleaning Lady' that same year.
Speaking of his love for the art of acting, Canto told 'Anthem Magazine' in 2022 that "it’s a fun job" and "a great world to be a part of."
"I certainly give thanks every day for it. And it’s not an easy thing. It’s something that I kind of slipped into and I’m very blessed in that way. Yeah, I just can’t stop enjoying it. Every job is different," Adan said.
