Bella Hadid isn't afraid of sharing her past, and how she's grown immensely over the last few years, especially when it comes to setting personal boundaries.
During her Victoria's Secret podcast appearance, VS Voices, Hadid shared that she felt she had completely lost a sense of personal boundaries due to the abuse she suffered at the hands of those she trusted most.
Bella Hadid reclaiming her power
Bella Hadid is making sure that people won't ever step all over her again! After dealing with some abuse in her relationships, both career-wise and romantic, Hadid is aware she won't let anyone else take advantage of her.
Hadid said she "constantly" went back to people that had abused her, and because of that she became a "people pleaser".
Bella also mentioned the result of abuse saying, "I started not having boundaries, not only sexually, physically, emotionally, but then it went into my workspace."
She continued, "I didn't want to associate with any people — I didn't want to have any friends, I didn't want to have any family. I became a people pleaser with my job."
She noted that she put too much weight on the opinions of others, but has finally realized it's her own opinion about herself that truly matters.
She also said that the subtle sexism she endured growing up also affected her self-worth.
"I grew up around men – whether that was in relationships or family or whatever that was – where I was constantly told that my voice was less important than their voice," she said.
"Then moving into relationships growing up, not having the boundaries of being able to stick up for myself and have my voice being heard, affected me in my adult relationships very intensely actually, where my nervous system would crash," Hadid revealed.
Hadid says that through it all, therapy and staying sober have helped her and that she's managing it with the help of close relatives like her big sis, Gigi Hadid.
