Carlos Bernard Papierski (*1962) was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and after graduating from high school and Illinois State University, he headed to San Francisco to pursue a Master in Fine Arts in the American Conservatory Theater in the early nineties.
During his time in San Francisco, Bernard appeared in a number of stage productions but then quickly moved on to other jobs in television. He had guest appearances in shows like Walker, Texas Ranger, Burn Notice and Babylon 5. He starred as a series regular on The Young and the Restless in 1999.

Carlos Bernard played "Tony Almeida" in 24
In 2001, Bernard was cast as "Tony Almeida" in the FOX drama series 24, starring Kiefer Sutherland as "Jack Bauer". The show was a massive hit and Bernard was a main cast member until the end of season 5 in 2006. He then reprised his role in 2009, in 2014's 24: Solitary and again in 2017 for 24: Legacy.
After his run on 24, Bernard had some guest roles on shows like CSI: Miami, Hawaii Five-0, and a recurring role on Dallas from 2012 until 2013.
It turns out Bernard has not only worked in front, but also behind the camera for a while now. He directed 24 episodes of the CBS drama The Inspectors from 2015 until 2017. He also sat in the director's chair for Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, MacGyver, FBI and Michael Weatherly's show Bull.

Carlos Bernard married his first wife Sharisse Baker in 1999. Their daughter was born in 2003, but the couple divorced in 2010. Bernard has been married to actress Tessie Santiago since 2013 and they have a son, who was born in 2018.
