Village People and their role in the celebrations around Trump
The American disco group The Village People, known for their dance-pop hits from the late 70s, will perform at two events during the inauguration. Their best-known hit "Y.M.C.A." is considered the anthem of the LGBTQ* community and was frequently played during Trump's election rallies.
The band explained on their Facebook page: "We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics."

Carrie Underwood, who became famous through her participation in 'American Idol', will sing "America the Beautiful" at Donald Trump's inauguration. According to the 'Associated Press', she will perform at the U.S. Capitol shortly before Trump's inauguration. In addition to Underwood and the Village People, other artists will perform at the festivities, including country singer Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio. The events will begin with a fireworks display at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, and include a variety of activities, including a reception at the White House, a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue and several balls.
