Emma Heming-Willis' emotional anniversary
"17 years of us" Emma begins her message and talks openly about the emotional challenges they are currently facing. "Anniversaries used to bring excitement," she continues. "Now, if I’m honest, they stir up all the feelings, leaving a heaviness in my heart and a pit in my stomach. I give myself 30 minutes to sit in the ‘why him, why us,’ to feel the anger and grief. Then I shake it off and return to what is. And what is… is unconditional love."
Emma describes how she gives herself 30 minutes to dwell on thoughts of anger and sadness before getting back to the "unconditional love" that she shares with Bruce. "I feel blessed to know it, and it’s because of him. I’d do it all over again and again in a heartbeat."
This openness touches many, including Tallulah Willis (30), the daughter of Bruce with Demi Moore (62). She comments on the post with her own declaration of love: "I love you both so much."
Bruce Willis' diagnosis and its effects
Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022 which impairs his ability to communicate. The following year, the diagnosis was confirmed as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive disease that causes speech problems and personality changes.
Emma Heming-Willis has been an advocate for other caregivers ever since. "I think it's important to see all sides" she said in an Instagram video in March 2023, emphasizing the challenges she faces as a mother of two.
Support from family and friends
Emma Heming-Willis has also announced a book project about her experiences as a caregiver. "Knowledge is power, and building a supportive community around me was crucial," she explained.
She receives support not only from Bruce's children from his marriage to Demi Moore but also from the actress herself, who often emphasizes how important it is to meet Bruce in his current state.
