Selena's story

“I haven’t ever said this,” Gomez said, in a cover story published online Monday, “but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

The 32-year-old star said she still plans on becoming a mom one day. It's just not going to happen "necessarily the way I envisioned it," she added.

Gomez, who has long been open about her health challenges, has found herself grappling with the complex and often painful reality of infertility. Despite her public persona of strength and resilience, the issue of not being able to get pregnant has taken a significant emotional toll on her. She has expressed how deeply the inability to conceive has affected her sense of self and her aspirations for the future.

“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone," she said. "I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

In her interview, Gomez conveyed the sense of loss and frustration she feels. She described the emotional burden of not being able to achieve something that many people take for granted, and how it has influenced her mental and emotional well-being. The experience has been a source of significant heartache for her, as she navigates the challenges of infertility in the public eye.

Selena’s journey through this personal struggle sheds light on a topic that is often shrouded in silence. By speaking out, she aims to bring greater awareness and understanding to the emotional complexities associated with fertility issues. Her openness serves as a reminder of the many people who face similar struggles and the importance of compassion and support.

As she continues to share her story, Selena Gomez hopes to foster a broader conversation about the realities of infertility and the emotional support needed for those affected. Her bravery in addressing these personal challenges highlights her commitment to not only her own healing but also to supporting others who might be going through similar experiences.

While she said she has a loving partner who is also OK with not having children, "that is something that I actively seek therapeutic support around and a community around of choosing to be childless. And some of that choice is due to my health, it is due to the risks that exist in my family system with both of my parents having a cancer diagnosis."
