- 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Teaser has been released
- New teaser reveals time jump and episode title
- This is the season finale of the show
On "Stranger Things Day," celebrated annually on November 6 to commemorate the day "Will Byers" vanished in Hawkins, Indiana, Netflix unveiled a teaser for the much-anticipated fifth season of 'Stranger Things.' This announcement has fans buzzing with excitement as it confirms the final season's release in 2025. Concerns about potential delays due to the Hollywood actor and writer strikes have been put to rest, assuring viewers that the new episodes will arrive next year.
A leap through time: The 1987 setting
One of the most intriguing revelations from the teaser is the inclusion of a time jump. Ross Duffer, who co-created the series with his brother Matt, hinted at this development in a previous interview with 'TV Line,' stating, "Ideally, we’d have shot [seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that." As the actors have matured since the filming of season 4, season 5 will now take place in the fall of 1987, more than a year after the previous season's events.
The last season ended with "Eleven," "Mike," "Will, Hopper," "Joyce," "Nancy," and "Jonathan" witnessing the opening of portals from the "Upside Down," unleashing chaos into their world. Meanwhile, "Max" remains unconscious in the hospital, with actress Sadie Sink hinting cryptically about her character's journey, "They love having me run. That’s all I’ll say."
Episode titles unveiled: A glimpse into the final season
The teaser also provided a tantalizing glimpse into the episode titles for the final season. The first episode, "The Crawl," had already been teased, while the second episode's title begins with "The Vanishing of..." The remaining episodes are intriguingly named "The Turnbow Trap," "Sorcerer," "Shock Jock," "Escape From Camazotz," "The Bridge," and "The Rightside Up."
Fans can look forward to the return of beloved characters portrayed by Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Brett Gilman, Priah Ferguson, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, and Amybeth McNulty. Additionally, the final season welcomes new faces, including Terminator legend Linda Hamilton, along with Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux.
Ross Duffer expressed his excitement for the final season, saying, "This is the season the fans have been waiting for, and we hope you're as excited as we are to get to tell the final chapter in this story." Jamie Campbell Bower, returning as "Vecna," added, "If season 4 was big, season 5 definitely feels bigger."
An emotional finale awaits
During a live taping of the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast at New York Comic Con, David Harbour shared insights into the emotional impact of the series finale. He described the table read for the last episode, recounting, "The end of this episode when we were reading it, just us reading it, about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people."
