On January 14, Princess Kate visited the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she shared her experience of cancer treatment. She had received her cancer treatment at the hospital last year. During her visit, she met patients and medical staff and talked about her own feelings about chemotherapy.

Princess Kate: Personal insights into the treatment

Princess Kate spoke to Katherine Field, a patient who wore a cooling cap during her chemotherapy to prevent hair loss. Gesturing to her own arm and chest area, the princess said of her chemotherapy port, according to the 'Daily Mail': "I got so attached to it."

This port is a small implantable device that is connected to a vein and is used to administer treatments such as chemotherapy. She even hesitated when she was told that she could take her port out again.

Although she did not share specific details, Kate revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment and in September that she had completed chemotherapy.

What Kate's chemotherapy was like

After her hospital visit on January 14, the princess announced that she was in remission. During the appointment, she also commented on the feelings of camaraderie among the patients and asked Field: "I had to do it privately and quietly but being on a ward like this has to be reassuring in a way?"

She added, "Everyone said to me, please keep a positive mindset. It makes such a difference." Kate also spoke about the time after chemotherapy and its long-term effects. "You think the treatment has finished, and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that's still a real challenge."

Praise for the hospital staff

The Princess praised the team at the Royal Marsden Hospital, mentioning: "They've been fantastic. You feel in good hands." In a personal message on social media, Kate thanked the center for the excellent care she received and revealed that she is in remission. She expressed her desire to use her new role as Patron to support research and clinical excellence and promote the well-being of patients and families.
